Haiku in Black
June 23, 2010
a haiku differs
from other poetic forms
its words are ordered
into syllables
(as opposed to rhymes)
as in 5 – 7 – 5
the meter is key
in japanese poetry
and no the phoneme
like a palindrome
from 5 to 7, then home
signifying close
european poems
open out and forward-think
always incomplete
they build it on rhymes
never repeating their rhymes
for a second time
to them, it is dumb
but to us, it is refined
we see words in time
they see words in space
repetition spells disgrace
redundant, they say
we hear words in time
even if the words repeat
they are not the same
(because the times have changed.)
